Quick Tips for Email Marketing

email-marketingAnyone who has read our blog here at The Mission Suite knows that email marketing is one of the most effective ways to engage customers and increase site traffic and hopefully sales. However, not all emails are created equal. It takes some practice and a little know-how to craft a compelling and engaging email message.

Here’s a few tips we’ve collected that will help you make your next email marketing campaign the most successful one yet.

1. Focus, Focus, Focus

It’s no secret that marketers like to send emails – lots and lots of emails. This bombard tactic can be effective, but without the proper planning it can often backfire as well.

Consumers only have limited inbox space in the sense that they have limited time. Busy recipients often can’t keep tabs on your newsletter, this coupon, this promotion, etc. even if they wanted to. That is why it’s important to have a singular focus. Drive that point home with every email you send and watch as your readers respond.

2. Target Demographics

We’ve talked about this before, but much of modern email marketing software makes it an easy proposition: whenever you can you should target your customers with tailored messages.

For example, if you are a clothing retailer, why not tailor your message to men and women separately and then send out those messages to their respective list segments? The likelihood of a response increases proportionally to how relative the email is to the reader, so do your best to make your email tailored and targeted to your customers.

3. Subject Lines

We could easily (and have before) write almost an entire article on subject lines. It’s possibly the most important part of your email, so don’t slack on it! Spend just as much time on the subject as you would on any other part of the email, it’s that important!

4. Use Some Pretty Pictures

We’ve talked before about using video in your email campaign, but you don’t even need to be that fancy. One good, impactful picture can send a message that a whole wall of text can’t, and it can do it immediately.

Pictures are an incredible resource for emails marketers. However, be very careful not to get carried away and muddy up your message. Also, be sure not to rely entirely on pictures to deliver your message, as many modern email clients will disable images by default.
