A landing page is one of the most important parts of your website. The page that people arrive on when they click on a link. While a landing page is essentially your homepage, they don’t exactly serve the same purpose. That’s why it’s good to follow some tips when it comes to creating your landing pages. Check out these dos and don’ts:
Don’t: Clutter your landing page with an array of images.
A landing page needs to look clean and professional. If you weigh it down with too many pictures, it’s going to distract the visitor. It can also turn them off completely from continuing to explore your website further.
Do: Choose a large image that exemplifies your company’s goal. The photo should influence positive thoughts and feelings that would be associated with your business.
Don’t: Cause your page to slow down.
One major reason you don’t want to have a lot of images on your landing pages is because it slows the pages down. If these pages are taking too long to load, then guess what. Leads are going to ex out of the page in no time.
Do: Reduce the amount of content you have on your page, in addition to limiting images. Try to keep text relevant, but to a minimum. Make sure to also test your page’s speed to see if it’s where it needs to be.
Don’t: Leave out important information.
Yes, when your page needs to be fast and you can’t clutter it with things, it might be hard to make space for all the important information you want to share. But, it’s imperative you find a way to answer questions that your leads or customers may have when they come to your page.
Do: Use headings and subtext to highlight the important information you need to on your landing page. Provide links to other areas of the website that can help people who want to find out more about a certain topic.
Don’t: Be dull and boring.
Landing pages need to be creative. They need to reel in the reader right from the get go. While sometimes companies are afraid to be too creative, there’s really nothing you have to lose!
Do: Use a combination of smart colors that have been researched to draw people in. Also, add a video to spice thing up, as well as sharing icons.
Don’t: Have only one landing page.
You might be wondering why if a landing page is similar to a homepage, you should have more than one. And, by that, we mean at least more than five. Having more landing pages increases the chances of achieving success with your business.
Do: Create several landing pages for EACH campaign. You’re guaranteed to have more positive results with the addition of more landing pages. That being said, quality over quantity is important. Make sure if you take this route, each one of your landing pages is does its job.
Don’t: Leave out a call to action.
After all, this is the point of your landing page. Your landing page should give your visitor two choices. Think of it as “Should or Stay or Should I Go?” Don’t forget your call to action button, whatever you do!
Do: Make your call to action button LOUD and CLEAR for everyone to hear. What we mean is, make it larger than the other icons on the page, make it creative, and make it stand out so people feel inclined to click it!
